Almost finished making my crate (out of pallets) for my M1 Garand, No.4 and M1 Carbines.

Going to make a shelf for the Griswold bag to sit across the top, so when you pop the top door it looks like it's full of rifles.

... converted the GSTP pocket watch (General Service Time Piece) to have a quartz movement rather than a mechanical one. This was because the mechanical one was quite fragile (I think I have broken it by dropping it 1 metre onto carpet) and spares/servicing was going to work out expensive as I suspect it'd be in out of a watch repairers more times than a...

It's not perfect by any means, but has cost virtually nothing to do so far. I will be working to improve it though...

I can see why you converted it but it always seems a shame to do something like that. Mechanical watches are like classic cars - they need regular infusions of cash to keep them working.

Yes, but the response from the watch repairer was that this was one of 1000s out there, and the parts were almost impossible to get.

Also the dial was damaged so it was hardly a collector's piece. It also cost me very little.

It just wasn't worth the hassle and it'd be a pain in the neck to keep going for just a couple of events a year. Probably on those few events it would cease to work and be no use anyway.

I've tried to keep the movement all in one piece and it should go back together as it was originally if needed.

Went to visit U-534 at Birkenhead, very interesting and slightly mysterious story, a shame that they had to cut it up BUT much more interesting now that they have because being able to see inside was great. Considering it spent nearly 50 years on the bottom of the sea...very well preserved. Recommended.

"Dickie Knight" Battledress serge, mint set.
WPG shirt collarless, which will be for sale as the last one I had set my allergies off like crazy.
Original (I think) white braces
A very good haul for the price.

Yeah... it can get expensive and the prices seem to have gone up a lot since I did mine a few years ago. Still the upgrades are good!

Hmmm, I'm fairly sure I've not done that upgrade in mine. It shoots nice and straight as well.
